Temporary Home Search!

So the fun begins!  We started searching for a new home.  We visited two places.  One was a Mobile Home Trader and the other was a holiday park on the coast. It was good fun but I don't think the reality of what are going to do has really sunk in yet!

I lost count of how many mobile homes we looked in at the Mobile Home Trader.  There are so many different layouts to choose from and quite a hefty price tag on some of them.   The good thing about buying one from here is that they will deliver it onto site and you can also opt for a buy back scheme.  So when the build is finished and we move into our new home we can sell back the mobile home and not lose too much money.

Now, I thought that visiting the Holiday Park was going to be a waste of time because the caravans would be hugely expensive.  This was not the case and they were so much nicer inside.  We could buy a mobile home for a fraction of the price but would have to pay someone to transport it onto site for us.  Also we would have the hassle of selling the mobile home after the build was complete.  Even so, this option worked out far cheaper!  If we couldn't sell the mobile home and had to have it destroyed, it would still work out cheaper.

There are so many things to consider.  We don't want to put any of our furniture into storage if we can help it and the more that we can fit into the caravan the better.  But there isn't much space and we are a large family.   What to do about the washing machine?  I would much prefer to have our own beds.  Where are we going to put the mobile home? Electricity/water etc etc ..... the list is endless..... and a blog of it's own!

A New Beginning!

It's taken two years of 'up's and down's' to finally get to where we are today.  What a roller coaster of a journey and we haven't even started yet!

So - the history - We decided to renovate our tiny out-dated cottage.  With increasing fuel prices, the first thing we needed to think about was insulation.  No matter how hard we have tried over the last 11 years, we have never been able to find out where the draft is coming from.... Ok! There are a few clues ... the house has no wall cavity let alone wall cavity insulation and was built at a time when insulation hadn't been heard of.... the roofing felt has so many holes in it, it may as well not be there .... etc ....

The Damp - the impossible damp and mould.  It will not be removed no matter what chemicals are applied or mould free paint is used...

The Layout - atrocious .... we have three doors entering into the living room .... a very small living room ... this leaves no space for normal sized furniture.

The list is endless ...... blah ...blah ....blah .....

Then came the Crazy idea - because this house is wrong on so many levels, why not knock it all down, re-design it and start again!

Yeah!  Great Idea!

This is where we were two years ago.  We sat down and designed a house that would work for us.  A simple design for a young, modern family to grow and enjoy together.
  • Insulated     yes
  • Spacious     yes
  • Funky         yes
  • Storage       yes
  • Techy         yes
So many ideas ... and now that planning has been approved and the structural calcs have been calculated, we are ready to start....

from this ......                                                                                         to this........

Haaa haaaa, only kidding!  Time to get serious.....
